Letting kids be kids
NorthPoint Health & Wellness Center is a healthcare center and human services agency in North Minneapolis with a mission to promote wellness in an underserved community. NorthPoint wanted to create a children’s wellness space that promoted healthy play while sparking kids’ imaginations.
From Prototypes to Play
A storybook vision comes to life
Starting with NorthPoint’s rough drawings, Jo-Lu was engaged as co-designer, builder and general contractor as this nondescript room was transformed into a storybook wonderland. Jo-Lu designed and built playhouses, a lily pad lake, a cloud ceiling, origami crane sculpture, benches, shelving and custom windows.
Playing well with others
Delight in the details
The specialty skillsets of some friends of Jo-Lu helped bring the room to life with a vinyl graphic package for the room and entryway and custom upholstery that matched the whimsical designs. Jo-Lu also sourced and managed subcontractors for the demo, wall modifications and electrical work, so the busy health center managers had a single point of contact.
